The Amazing Benefits of Beets & Three Must Try Recipes

Beets are known to be liver protector and blood cleanser. They are one of the greatest sources of antioxidants and the healthy version of nitrates (not the kind in hot dogs and cured meats). They can increase your energy and if you are suffering sexually, are male and need a boost to your libido, beets are a great natural resource for you. Your libido can be impacted because they help you get more blood flow to your sexual organs. It doesn’t matter if they are yellow or red. Both have equal benefits. This food source is not only nutritious, but also tasty! Beets have an insane amount of mineral and vitamins, the down side is they have nearly as much sugar as sugar cane. So how do you incorporate this nutritious food without the side effects. One way is to take a BEET SUPPLEMENT. If you decide to eat them alone or as a part of a meal aim for post workout or at a time when your blood sugars may be at a lull. You know when your blood sugars are because you will lethargic such as in the afternoon. Just try not to eat them at times you are inactive if you are on any form of  a program for weight loss or body fat reduction. Beets are natural cleansers and are a tonic for the liver. It also works to purify blood and prevents various forms of cancer according to Kiley Dumas who writes on healthy eating in for Full Circle, an organic produce delivery service. Because beets have a high source of Betaine and tryptophan they can have a positive impact on you psychologically. Betain is used often to treat depression and tryptophane has the same effect as chocolate and promotes a sense of well being and calmness.

Here is an even more crazy fact about beets! Did you know if you eat them and your pee turns pink you can tell that you have LOW STOMACH ACID, but if it is clear this means you have an acidic stomach and probably need to do some juicing using greens too! If you decide to use beets in your juice add only small amounts if you are doing it anytime other than post workout. Post workout you can afford more sugar.  I love to add beets into my salads in small doses. If you begin to incorporate beets in your diet your diet keep in mind they can lower blood pressure. If you have already low blood pressure or kidney stones this food source may not be ideal for you.  Here is an easy recipe that you can try at home. This is great in the winter when your body may need a good cleanse.
WINTER WARM BEET SOUP 
Ingredients:
2 TBSP of sesame or Coconut oil
1 large yellow onion chopped
salt to taste Himalayan
Black pepper to taste
3 cloves of garlic chopped!
4 large carrots sliced
2 tsp dried fennel or fennel seeds
1 tsp fenugreek powder
1 TBSP dill leaves
I square of Kombu, cut in 4 pieces
t tsp asafoetida (hing, you can get this at Indian market or online from Amazon)
4 medium beets chopped
beet greens chopped
i bunch of lacinato kale or chard chopped
1 qt of organic vegetable broth
Prepare
In large pot saute the onions till golden with salt and pepper. Then add garlic and sauté some
more. Add the fennel and hing, and all veggies, kombu and broth. Bring to a boil and then simmer for
one hour on low ten, stirring occasionally till the beets are tender.
